Roger Layton

Roger was born in Croxdale in 1950 and attended Chester-le-Street Grammar School.

Roger left school in 1967 and started working for the Inland Revenue at the Collector of Taxes department in Newcastle rising to the position of Collector, leaving to join the private sector in 1976 and finally as an Accountant from 2000 till retirement in 2015.

Roger married Gillian in 1975 and lived within the Chester le Street area in the early years before moving to Great Lumley where they have lived for over 30 years. They have two sons born in 1979 and 1981

Roger was Initiated into Lodge of Fidelity No 7237 in 1976 attaining the Chair in 1987, the first of three spells as Worshipful Master. He joined the Mark in 1981 and is a Grand Officer and the Chapter in 1985 where he is a Provincial Officer. He is a member of many Orders and has gained high rank in all of them

In the Royal and Select Masters he was Chosen into St Cuthbert’s Council No. 126 in 1997 becoming their TIM in 2002 and having spells as Recorder and Treasurer. He is a Founder member of Prince Bishop and Kessick John Jones Councils and has been District Grand Director of Ceremonies from 2011 to 2012 and District Grand Principle Conductor of the Work from 2013 to 2015. In 2010 Roger added the Silver Trowel to his list and was appointed to Grand Manciple in the same year, being promoted to Past Grand Conductor of the Council in 2014
