Michael was born in Hebburn in 1947 and served his apprenticeship as a Deck Officer with Newcastle based Company ‘Hunting and Son’ who at that time operated a fleet of oil tankers. In 1967 at the tender age of twenty Michael married his wife Susan and together they brought up a family of two sons, Paul and Michael and are proud Grandparents to Katie, Harry and Joseph. His employment at this stage was varied and in 1977 he opened his own Motor Factor business in Hebburn and apart from a break to go into Sports Retailing and full time Skydiving he returned to the Motor Factor business until his retirement in 2009.
Michael started his Masonic career in 1990 when he was initiated into Northern Counties Lodge number 406 in Northumberland becoming Worshipful Master in 1994 and staying in the Chair for two consecutive years and then Secretary. He joined Palmer Lodge number 9255 in 1996 going into the Chair in 1997 attaining Provincial honours in both Provinces. He now holds the Grand Rank of PAGDC in the Craft and is a member of seven orders in total going through all of the Chairs but one and receiving Grand Rank in the Mark Degree and Royal Ark Mariners and Provincial Rank in the others. He was chosen as a Select Master into Monkton Council number No 259 in 2005 and Installed as TIM in 2012, in the same year being appointed as Assistant District Recorder. He was promoted to District Recorder in October 2013. In Grand Council he was appointed as PAGDC in 2014. He was Installed as District Grand Master of Durham at Gateshead Masonic Hall on 9th September 2017.
Michael's hobbies include golf photography and skydiving whenever time and weather permits.
